☀️ Gibraltar heat warning — stay safe on the Rock
Summer temperatures regularly exceed 30°C with high humidity. Follow local advice, stay cool and hydrated, carry water (refill free at Casemates Square), avoid the Upper Rock between 12:00–16:00, and use sun protection (hat, sunglasses, SPF 30+). If you feel dizzy or stop sweating, seek shade and fluids immediately.

Gibraltar is a surprisingly good digital nomad base — English-speaking, British-style, Mediterranean climate, and fast internet. Here's what you need to know about working remotely from the Rock.
Internet & WiFi
Gibraltar has excellent internet infrastructure — fibre is widely available, and mobile data is fast (4G/5G throughout). Typical speeds: 100–500 Mbps download on home fibre; 50–150 Mbps on mobile. Cafés and coworking spaces generally have reliable WiFi at 20–100 Mbps.
For a SIM card, Gibtelecom and u-mee both offer pay-as-you-go data plans. A tourist eSIM or your home roaming plan will also work (check EU roaming — Gibraltar is not EU, so roaming charges may apply).
Coworking Spaces
World Trade Center Gibraltar at the marina is the main coworking space — professional, modern, with meeting rooms, fast WiFi, and sea views. Day passes and monthly memberships available. It's the best option for serious remote work.
The Lounge in Ocean Village functions as an informal coworking café — good WiFi, coffee, and a nomad-friendly atmosphere. Free to use if you buy drinks, but no dedicated desks.
Cafés with Good WiFi
- The Lounge, Ocean Village — the nomad hub, good WiFi, great coffee
- Cafe Marroqui's, Main Street — quick, reliable, central
- Starbucks, Main Street — standard, reliable, always open
- The Coffee Shop, Queensway Quay — quiet, sea view, decent WiFi
Practical Tips
- Time zone: GMT/BST — same as UK, great for UK clients
- Power: UK 3-pin plugs, 230V — no adapter needed for UK devices
- Visa: UK citizens can stay freely; non-UK check entry requirements
- Cost: Higher than Spain, similar to UK — budget accordingly
- Accommodation: Short-term rentals are limited and pricey; consider La Línea across the border for longer stays
- Weather: Best March–June and September–October; July–August too hot for a laptop outside
The Verdict
Gibraltar works well for short-to-medium remote work stints — the infrastructure is solid, the timezone is UK-friendly, and the lifestyle is excellent. For longer stays, the cost and limited accommodation push most nomads to base in La Línea and cross the border daily. For a few weeks of sun-and-work, it's ideal.
