☀️ Gibraltar heat warning — stay safe on the Rock
Summer temperatures regularly exceed 30°C with high humidity. Follow local advice, stay cool and hydrated, carry water (refill free at Casemates Square), avoid the Upper Rock between 12:00–16:00, and use sun protection (hat, sunglasses, SPF 30+). If you feel dizzy or stop sweating, seek shade and fluids immediately.

Here's everything you need to know to make your Gibraltar day trip smooth and stress-free.
Gibraltar Day Trip from Marbella
🚗 By Car
- Distance: Approximately 85km
- Driving time: 1 hour to 1 hour 15 minutes via the A-7 coastal road
- Route: A-7 / AP-7 west towards Estepona, then continue to La Línea. Park in La Línea and walk across.
🚌 By Bus
- Regular COMES bus services run from Marbella to La Línea de la Concepción (via Estepona and Algeciras)
- Journey time: approximately 1.5–2 hours
- From La Línea bus station, it's a 10-minute walk to the Gibraltar frontier
⏱️ Time Tip
Leave Marbella by 8am to arrive in La Línea by 9:30am and be in Gibraltar by 10am — giving you a full 8+ hours before needing to head back.
Gibraltar Day Trip from Málaga
🚗 By Car
- Distance: Approximately 130km
- Driving time: 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours depending on traffic on the A-7
- The A-7 coastal road is scenic but can be slow in summer — the AP-7 toll motorway is faster
🚌 By Bus
- Direct Portillo/ALSA buses run from Málaga bus station (Estación de Autobuses de Málaga) to La Línea
- Journey time: approximately 2.5 hours
- Several departures daily — check current timetables on the ALSA website
🚆 By Train + Bus
- Train from Málaga to Algeciras (change at Bobadilla) — approximately 3 hours total
- Then local bus from Algeciras to La Línea (30 min)
- More scenic but much slower — not recommended for a time-pressed day trip
⏱️ Time Tip
From Málaga, catch the earliest bus or leave by car before 7:30am to maximise your time in Gibraltar. A full day is very doable.
Gibraltar Day Trip from Seville
🚗 By Car
- Distance: Approximately 200km
- Driving time: 2 hours to 2 hours 30 minutes via the A-381
- The A-381 Jerez–Los Barrios motorway is the fastest and most direct route
🚌 By Bus
- Direct ALSA buses from Seville's Plaza de Armas bus station to La Línea
- Journey time: approximately 3 hours
- Usually 3–4 departures per day — book in advance in summer
⏱️ Time Tip
From Seville, this is a long day — realistically 10+ hours including travel. Leave by 7am to arrive in Gibraltar by 10am and have a 6-hour window before heading back. Consider an overnight stay to do it properly.
The Golden Rule: Park in La Línea, Walk Across
Wherever you're coming from, do not drive into Gibraltar. Park in La Línea de la Concepción — there's plentiful, cheap parking (€2–4/day in central car parks) — and walk across the border. The pedestrian queue is almost always significantly shorter than the vehicle queue.
